The 4 layers turn an observation into a reveal.

Layer 1 describes what happened. Layer 2 names the mechanism. Layer 3 explains why the expert cannot see it. Layer 4 names the belief or mental model driving it.

Layer 3 and Layer 4 are where depth begins.

A behavior plus a clever name can be interesting. The deeper work starts when the person sees why the behavior felt obvious, and which belief made that obviousness feel true.
