The 4 layers

The 4 layers are Behavior, Mechanism, Cognitive blindness, and Belief.

Working definition

The 4 layers turn an observation into a reveal.

Layer 1 describes what happened. Layer 2 names the mechanism. Layer 3 explains why the expert cannot see it. Layer 4 names the belief or mental model driving it.

02

Layer 3 and Layer 4 are where depth begins.

A behavior plus a clever name can be interesting. The deeper work starts when the person sees why the behavior felt obvious, and which belief made that obviousness feel true.

Where it goes to work

First your thinking becomes visible. Then it goes to work.

Every build starts with your Cognitive Fingerprint™: the part where what has always been there becomes something you can see. Then it gets installed where your work actually happens. For you, for your team, or for the whole company.
